BIR proudly presents the fourth in a series of proton radiotherapy multi-presenter webinars videos with updates from the first NHS proton beam therapy centre which provides high energy proton beam therapy in England.
Dr Adrian Crellin provides an update on NHS England Commissioning arrangements as well as an approach to outcomes collection and future clinical studies.
Ms Hazel Pennington provides an operational overview of the first NHS England proton therapy service, which commenced in 2018 at The Christie Manchester for patients from across the UK.
Professor Stuart Green gives an update on the progress towards a new dosimetry code of practice for scanned proton beams. The UK clinical proton facilities are consistent with facilities around the World in being calibrated in accordance with the well-established IAEA code of practice (published in document TRS 398). However during their recent commissioning programs the NPL team have worked closely with the clinical physics teams to also perform calorimeter measurements according to our new IPEM code of practice. These measurements will form a crucial validation of the new code of practice, and some examples are presented in this webinar video.
