An update on imaging service delivery from the NHS England perspective 19 Mar 2015

This video explores the current and future state of play of imaging services in the NHS since its reorganisation. The focus is on the English system but much of the content applies to all of the UK. The recently published Five Year Forward View for NHS England is explained and its potential impact on imaging services discussed. Systems for benchmarking and improvement are described.

Learning points:
  1. Quality improvements programmes have been effective at increasing capacity and reducing waiting times.
  2. Different types of improvement methodology can be used depending on the scenario.
  3. Balancing demand and capacity will be more challenging in coming years.
  4. Working across the 7 days of the week in a more similar way is likely to be a solution adopted across the NHS.
  5. Demand for radiology continues to rise and the NHS will need to adapt to continue to deliver high quality imaging as part of patient pathways.
