Training requirements for the clinical provision of IGRT 13 Mar 2020


This talk covers the core components of IGRT training and provides an insight into the discipline and treatment site specific training requirements. It highlights the training methods and formats as well as competency assessment supported by clinical examples.

Sophie Alexander

Sophie Alexander Research Superintendent Therapeutic Radiographer, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust Sophie Alexander completed her MSc in Oncology Practice in 2016. Her MSc dissertation developed and evaluated a radiographer cervical cancer training and competency programme. It was published in technical innovations and patient support in radiation oncology (2019). She recently assumed the role of research superintendent radiographer, working to optimise imaging technology, treatment delivery and patient experience on new technologies including the MR Linac and CyberKnife. She previously held the position of prostate IGRT specialist/POPS research radiographer. As prostate IGRT specialist she developed standard and trial IGRT training and treatment protocols, actively engaging in teaching of radiographers and clinical registrars. As POPS research radiographer, she was integral to the implementation of radiotherapy processes within this national trial. She continues as lead radiographer for this trial. She forms part of the central steering committee for the updated version of the RCR/SOR/IPEM On-Target Guidelines. Her specialist interests are; patient care, IGRT, competency development and assessment.
